You See What You Want To See

Have you ever heard of an SEP? We have a running joke in our family about SEPs. SEP stands for Somebody Else’s Problem. The idea was introduced to us in Douglas Adams 5 book trilogy “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe“. In “Life, The Universe and Everything”, Ford Prefect one of the main characters explains an SEP as “something that we can’t see, or don’t see, or our brains doesn’t let us see, because we think that it’s somebody else’s problem”.

I experienced an SEP first hand. I was living in the country about 12 miles from Georgetown, Texas. Everyday I traveled to Georgetown at least once a day sometime more often. It wasn’t until it came out in our weekly paper that I saw it. A fuel tank from a Saturn V rocket had fallen through the atmosphere to land on earth about 50 feet from the road. The same road I traveled back and forth on to go to Georgetown daily. It had been lying there for 5 days before I saw it! This was hard to miss. It was big. Tour buses started stopping at it. NASA denied it could be theirs; they were sure something that big would burn up when it entered the atmosphere. After about a month, NASA finally sent a crew to look at it and then they agreed it was theirs and they hauled it off.

The mind plays a big part in SEPs. I understand that our mind gets so many sensory inputs that it has to weed through them and only brings out what is pertinent to the situation at hand. How much are we really missing?

My son’s science class did an experiment where you stare at a red spot for a minute then look at a white sheet. The premise is that when you stare at red, the red receptors get tired and shut down and your brain takes over and says you are still seeing red. When you look at the white paper, it takes a while for the red receptors to wake back up and realize the scene has changed but your brain realized you are seeing something else and activates the other receptors while red wakes back up therefore you see green (all the other colors without red).

We kid our teenager about something being an SEP because he doesn’t want to deal with it. But seriously, how many things do we miss in life because it is an SEP?

One More Day On Death

Maybe I am being morbid but stick with me one more day.

I have often heard that you can tell a lot about a society by the way they treat their dead. The society in the US tends to bury them and leave them there in peace for eons. Often the graves go neglected except for the caretakers at the cemetery. What does that say about the US society?

I understand Europe is different. I have an Cousin from Germany and she told me that the cemeteries are so full that you “rent” a plot for a certain number of years, then some one else gets the space. I did not ask what they did with the body when they were through with the plot. What does that say about the German society?

Me personally I would like to be cremated and my ashes scattered. I don’t like the idea of being buried and having children and grand children feeling obligated to come and “pay their respects”. I won’t be there so why go through such a ritual?

What are your ideas? How do you want to be treated when you pass on?

Conscious Living

What is conscious living?

My definition is living a life where one is aware of and at peace with their actions. To be at peace with our actions means that we agree that we did the best we could, or we did what was right.

This is more than just knowing what I am doing; it is actually being in control of my actions and knowing why I am doing something. I am deliberately doing something with intention. This does not negate spontaneity. Sometimes an opportunity may come along and a person may deliberately decide they will take that opportunity. A person doesn’t just go along with the flow but they make their own path. In other words they know what they are doing and they agree with the action. In fact living a conscious life will actually open you up to more possibilities, as you will start to notice them.

Conscious living is living in the now. It is being aware of what is going on right now all around you. What do you hear right now? What do you smell? What do you see besides the words on this page? The now will open up in front of you and you will experience more and see more as you become aware.

I know I am not presenting this real well but a good and entertaining book about living the conscious life is Way of The Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman. This book tells the story of a young college athlete and his friendship with an old man who becomes his mentor in striving for a conscious life. This is a really inspiring and mind-opening book. It will change the way you look at your life. There are great possibilities out there but you have to be aware of them by being aware of what is going on around you. For those who prefer movies you are in luck Peaceful Warrior is in DVD form. If you need a Christmas present this will be one that will be used over and over.

Surrogate Meridian Tapping Study

December 14th, 2009 >> EFT, Energy, Life, Meridian Tapping, Physical/Material

To whom all reads this. I am running a study on the benefits of surrogate tapping. I would love to have more participants. A study is only good if you have a decent sample number.

What I need are people with problems they want help on. It could be a fear, phobia, ongoing pain of some type or something more general such as anxiety or panic attacks.

Look at the questionnaire below and if you would like to participate just leave a comment and I will reply to you with an e-mail address. (Comments are not automatically put on blog, I review everything first so don’t worry your comment will not be posted as blog comments). You have nothing to lose as this will not make anything worse and it may help.

Questionnaire for Surrogate Tapping Volunteers

I will perform one of two different types of sessions.

Correspondence will be by e-mail.

Those that answer yes to question 1 below will be given a one-hour session. I will notify you of the session 24 hours before I perform the session but will not give a specific time.  A follow up questionnaire will be sent to document any changes.

Those who answered yes to question 2 below will be given 5 short (10 to 15 minute) sessions during the week. I will notify you by e-mail when the series of sessions will start. A follow up questionnaire will be sent after the 5 consecutive sessions have been held.

If you answer yes to both 1 and 2, I will decide which session to use.

1. Do you have a specific issue, incident or pain you want worked on? ______
a. If you do what is it?
b. When did it start?
c. What was going on in your life at the time?
d. Any other info you think is pertinent.
2. Is there a nonspecific ongoing emotion you wish to work on such as depression, panic attacks, anxiety, etc.?
a. When did this start?
b. Do you know why it started?
c. Was there a specific event that happened at that time?
3. Are you willing to fill out a form with in 24 hours after notification that a session has been completed? ______ This form will be sent with the notification that a session has been completed.
4. Provide your name and City, State (or Country if not in the United States).
5. Please provide an e-mail address. This e-mail will not be sold or given to others.

Back Pain Eliminated

December 12th, 2009 >> EFT, Energy, Meridian Tapping, Physical/Material

Yesterday I said I would give you some back pain stories.

Several years ago my husband and I took an aviation radio to be fixed. At the repair shop were two men, one of which was hobbling around all bent over, he could barely walk. He looked to be in much pain. My husband is the more forward of the two of us and he mentioned to him that he looked like his back was bothering him (to put it mildly). The man said he woke up like this. My husband said, “My wife can help you with that”. I saw incredulous and fear come across his face. I quickly said, “I won’t touch your back, in fact I won’t touch you at all, you will do it yourself.” Now he was intrigued. We sat down and I showed him the points I wanted him to tap on and we went through about 5 rounds. When he stood up he was amazed (as is usually the case). The pain was gone. He was walking upright again. His partner at the shop who witnessed the whole thing commented that he wasn’t twinging any more.

Then the rest of the story came out. The previous night his wife had a very bad asthma attack and he felt helpless to do anything. His body was accommodating him in feeling helpless. It is like the body says, “Oh, you can’t do anything about this but you should do something, well I will give you a real reason you can not do anything.” Then kapow! he was disabled (not able).

Another story involves an elderly lady who has to work to make ends meet. She is rather resentful that she should have to work at her age and she was telling me that working and lifting the heavy bottles at the store made her back hurt. I quizzed her a little bit and she came to realize that the back pain started when she was getting ready for work, before she even got there. This was obviously an emotional issue. I sat her down and did two rounds of tapping on the back pain. I then asked her how she felt. Well she was so startled by the change that it scared her and she did not want to go on.

The rest of the story is that she really enjoys the pain, the attention, the feeling of being a martyr and really doesn’t want to give it up. I know that if she was not so scared of losing the pain, within an hour we could eliminate the root emotional cause of the pain and she would not have it ever again. All we did at the time was greatly reduce it for that day. I have also found that emotional pain will often come back the next day but if it is consistently worked on each time it comes up it will finally give up and go away (that may take 2 –3 weeks). Or if the root cause is found and tapped out, it will go away for good.

The last story I will tell today is very interesting. I had a client who had back pain off and on, literally. When ever she put her bra on her back hurt. This lady was not heavily endowed. There was no reason for her back to be hurting because of the bra. For this client I had to dig into what the bra meant to her. Once we worked through this, the pain was tapped away.

Energy Work

December 8th, 2009 >> EFT, Energy, Life, Meridian Tapping, Physical/Material, Vibration

Are you familiar with Meridian Tapping? If not I highly recommend it. If you don’t know what I am talking about go to www.naturallyresilient.com and watch the video on EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). This is an example of a Meridian Tapping modality. Meridian Tapping involves tapping on various acupuncture points to stimulate them and add energy into the meridian. By adding this energy, many problems can be easily overcome.

Sounds weird doesn’t it. That is what I thought when I first heard of it.

My first experience with a Tapping Therapy involved NAET (NAET.com), which is mainly geared to allergies. I had been going to an allergist for years, taking shots, was even on high powered inhalers because I had developed asthma. I hate not being able to breath, that is the one fear that really scared me most of my life, suffocating. May be that is from a past life experience.

I had a friend that saw how I was suffering, gasping for breath. She recommended some one who did allergy elimination. It sounded so weird; it took me 3 months to talk myself into going. I reasoned I would try it one time and see what happened and if it was a fraud, I was only out a small amount of money.

I was blown away. The first treatment was for my lactose intolerance. Before the treatment if I took a tablespoon of milk, I would end up in the bathroom in agony for 3 hours with what my family fondly calls the screaming squirts. But wow, after the treatment, I could eat ice cream and drink milk again. I continued going back to get all my allergies cleared up. The treatment for grasses cleared the asthma.

Needless to say, I was impressed and have been an advocate for energy medicine ever since. Give it a try; you may be just as blown away as I was.

Attitude is Everything

November 30th, 2009 >> Life, Manifesting, Physical/Material

I have been harping on Challenges and Problems lately.

They are so important because your attitude is important. If you have a good attitude things tend to fall into place. This is the law of attraction working.

I have been paying attention to my attitude and what has been going on this year. There were times I was sinking in my financial problems not seeing a way out. When that happened I usually could not see how next months bills were going to be paid. But then I would tell myself, I was not going to go there and everything would be ok. I would have to force an attitude adjustment on myself. When I did that, soon something would happen and money would come through.

I deliberately noted that the attitude change came before the problem cleared up.

What has been the challenge is to keep that positive attitude. All year I have vacillated between the two. Feeling optimistic then feeling pessimistic. That is my main challenge. What is yours.

Stay Optimistic

November 29th, 2009 >> Life, Physical/Material, Relationship

As I mentioned yesterday, you can have challenges and you can have problems. Challenges are a more optimistic way of looking at them. Challenges give a sense of hope that you can rise above the situation. Problems sound more ongoing something that you never quite get rid of.

You can turn your problems into challenges. This is not always easy to do. It requires you to stay hopeful and optimistic even when you do not feel like it. Thinking of your problem as temporary can make you feel more hopeful right away.

If you are jobless, or homeless or your relationship has just fallen apart, it is not the end of the world. It may feel like it right now but there is a tomorrow and you can stay hopeful of the possibilities of what is to come.

Dream big. Think about the best possible outcome. Who knows, you may get 4 job offers tomorrow, someone you hardly know may offer you free housing, you may literally run into someone who develops into the perfect relationship.

The main thing is to remain positive and optimistic.

Challenges vs. Problems

November 28th, 2009 >> Life, Physical/Material, Relationship

Which do you have problems or challenges.

Do you hear the difference in the two words?

One makes you feel limited; it is like a thorn in the side, an irritation that is always there that you cannot get rid of. The other is more optimistic; it is something to rise above, to be conquered.

Which would you rather have in your life?

I am often guilty of seeing problems instead of challenges. I am working on the more optimistic challenges instead of dwelling on the problems. It is hard work and I don’t always succeed but at least I do see the difference and am trying.

Vacations You Remember

Posted by: Ann

November 25th, 2009 >> Life, Physical/Material, Relationship

I just watched “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”. It was rather silly, but every once in a while you need a silly movie.

I started thinking about his holiday. It was not what he wanted or how he had envisioned his vacation. But it sure would be one he would remember and cherish the rest of his life.

Have you ever had a vacation like that? I have. A good friend and I took a 7 day vacation one Thanksgiving to a Jack Tar Village in St. Kitts. We love telling the story of the clock that lost 10 minutes an hour that we did not realize until 2 days latter and we tried to fix but caused it to explode, about the tub’s water valve that came off in our hands shooting water all over the place, the sliding door that would not close and trapped the attendant on the balcony who came to help us with it. Then there was the broken electrical line that blew out the electricity to the rooms but don’t worry the resort had back up generators, for the casino. Every day and almost every hour was an adventure. For families these vacations are bonding experiences. These events become inside jokes.

Maybe that is the way we should look at the hardships in life. Not as hardships but as bonding moments. Just take them in stride and go with the flow. Then when you get to the other side you can look back on it and say “wow, that was exciting” and you will have something to talk about.

In other words, don’t have died before you die. Live, Love and Laugh.
