What is all of this I have been hearing about aspartame?
Did you know it has toxic long-term effects? Aspartame has the same symptoms as Methanol poisoning! Did you know it is often a hidden ingredient in many pharmaceutical drugs?
This came across my e-mail and I listened to the whole 1:29:54 of it. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/02/06/sweet-misery-a-poisoned-world-you-can-finally-view-free-online.aspx
Very eye opening. A short synopsis of what I got from it follows:
A drug company was trying to find an ulcer drug when the chemist splashed some on his hand and licked it (brave chemist, one of the first rules I learned in chemistry class what not to put anything in your mouth) and it tasted sweet. This led to the idea that it may be a good diet substitute for sugar.
Testing was done for Aspartame but it was botched, several times. In one experiment the feed for the mice were mixed up and the test group and the control group were both fed the aspartame and both came down with brain tumors – test results recorded was that Aspartame was no different than the control group. (Brain tumors in any animal are not a normal condition). Another botched test was when the Aspartame was not finely ground up before being mixed with the feed. The animals just ate around it, kind of like trying to trick a cat with a pill in the food. These animals did not experience any side effects so this test was used.
It is also very fishy when the testing is done solely by a company that has a financial interest in the outcome. When is the FDA going to wake up and actually do their job? Many of the FDA workers involved in getting this “drug” approved for consumption are now working in the Soda and Drink industry.
Some of the side effects of Aspartame.
Seizures – Outside testing using monkeys had many with Grand Mal Seizures and one died.
Brain Tumors – The animals used for testing developed brain tumors. In the ‘official’ test many of these animals were preserved and looked at a year later after their tissue had turned to mush so nothing was seen, others had the tumors physically cut out before presenting for proof of acceptance. (How many people do you know who have developed brain cancer? I know quit a few).
Other problems that the Center for Disease Control investigations found cardiac arrest, seizures, liver problems, mood alterations, deaths. However the Center for Disease Control is so embarrassed (that they are unwilling to stand up to the commercial companies and the FDA) they only list a ‘summary’ on their website not the full 147 page report which can be found at www.dorway.com.
FDA has developed the attitude of approving things now and letting the people prove it is bad latter.
On a more personal aside, my husband use to drink diet cokes a lot. He quit when he linked the diet drink with his eye and leg muscle twitches, tinnitus and several other problems including the inability to loose weight (you don’t see a thin person drinking a diet drink).
I realized this morning that the “Slim Fast” I like for breakfast has aspartame so this is the last batch of that I will buy.
You See What You Want To See

Have you ever heard of an SEP? We have a running joke in our family about SEPs. SEP stands for Somebody Else’s Problem. The idea was introduced to us in Douglas Adams 5 book trilogy “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe“. In “Life, The Universe and Everything”, Ford Prefect one of the main characters explains an SEP as “something that we can’t see, or don’t see, or our brains doesn’t let us see, because we think that it’s somebody else’s problem”.
I experienced an SEP first hand. I was living in the country about 12 miles from Georgetown, Texas. Everyday I traveled to Georgetown at least once a day sometime more often. It wasn’t until it came out in our weekly paper that I saw it. A fuel tank from a Saturn V rocket had fallen through the atmosphere to land on earth about 50 feet from the road. The same road I traveled back and forth on to go to Georgetown daily. It had been lying there for 5 days before I saw it! This was hard to miss. It was big. Tour buses started stopping at it. NASA denied it could be theirs; they were sure something that big would burn up when it entered the atmosphere. After about a month, NASA finally sent a crew to look at it and then they agreed it was theirs and they hauled it off.
The mind plays a big part in SEPs. I understand that our mind gets so many sensory inputs that it has to weed through them and only brings out what is pertinent to the situation at hand. How much are we really missing?
My son’s science class did an experiment where you stare at a red spot for a minute then look at a white sheet. The premise is that when you stare at red, the red receptors get tired and shut down and your brain takes over and says you are still seeing red. When you look at the white paper, it takes a while for the red receptors to wake back up and realize the scene has changed but your brain realized you are seeing something else and activates the other receptors while red wakes back up therefore you see green (all the other colors without red).
We kid our teenager about something being an SEP because he doesn’t want to deal with it. But seriously, how many things do we miss in life because it is an SEP?
I love listening to the Christmas songs on the radio this time of year.
I will often comment to my husband how I like a certain song and he will quickly point out that is not a Christmas song but a winter song. I have started listening closer to what is being played and he is right. Many of them are not really Christmas songs.
Where is the Christ in Christmas? In our efforts to be politically correct and trying not to offend any one are we losing site of what is important to so many?
In Fahrenheit 451, the whole book-burning attitude got started because they did not want to offend anyone. To keep from offending they just squelched any new idea or anything that did not include everyone.
Maybe we are trying to go the other way by creating new holidays during this time of year.
A few years ago a new/old holiday made itself known. This one was called Kwanzaa; it was geared to African Americans but welcomes all.
Now I have heard about another one called Festivus. This one originated from a Seinfeld episode in 1997. Quite a few people are actually taking this and running with it. I am not sure that airing your grievances and telling others how they have disappointed you in the last year is really a good way to further relationships.
Maybe creating new holidays are appropriate. I understand the reason December 25 was established for Christmas was to take over a Druid holiday, changing that holiday into a more “acceptable” Christian holiday. Now I understand Christ birth was probably in April. So maybe we should move Christmas.
I have been talking on censorship the last couple of days. I guess I get on tangents.
I talked about censorship of words, but what about actions. Often actions speak louder than words. You may say one thing but your actions do not agree with the words. That is why raising children is so hard. They don’t do what you say, they do what you do.
It is very difficult keeping your actions in sync with your words. Face it, we are lazy and to live the life that is congruent with what we say we want is hard work.
This is where many people fall down in trying to manifest the life they want. To manifest what you want, you have to be congruent between you words and you actions. If you say you want to be more successful in your business, but you don’t take the opportunities as they come, you will never be more successful.
So we have to constantly censor our actions to achieve what we want and to be who we want. If we live a life that is uncensored we will live an unconscious life.
Yesterday I talked about Censorship of Governments.
What about censorship of the individual? There are times I can think of that I would have been smarter to have kept my mouth shut. Sometimes it is a big battle to hold that little tongue. It may be small but it is powerful and the strongest men sometimes have trouble controlling it.
How many times have words gotten you into trouble? Words can start wars. Words can also end them. That is a powerful thing, words.
We have such freedom now days to get our words across: Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Websites. Smart companies scan the web to see what people are saying about them because those words they find have a major influence not just on a few people but thousands, and thousands can impact their business.
But it is still the one-on-one words that have the most impact. What you say to your children, to your spouse those are the most important words.
As we land in this Christmas Season remember your words to those around you. You may have to hold back on what you say because it is not the loving thing to do. If you find yourself short of breath when you do this, it is only natural as your breath (voice) is being stifled. Just tell yourself “yes, I want to say something but this is not the loving thing to say at this time and it is my choice not to say this”. Then you will be able to catch your breath.
A Need for Censorship?

This topic has come up in my family recently due to my son writing an English term paper on censorship in “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. Did you know that book fell under censorship at one time?
Is censorship a good thing sometimes? Or is it always bad?
I understand that Google was only allowed into China when they agreed to censorship. Nothing about the Dali Lama and the Tibetan people is allowed in China.
What is China so afraid of Can they really keep their people in ignorance of what is going on in the rest of the world? Do they think their people are so gullible and ignorant that they will believe everything they hear? Or maybe they fear the opposite. Maybe China thinks their people won’t believe the powers that be any more. Is that a bad thing, for a government to have to toe- the- line and do what is right in the world and for their people not just for their ego?
When is censorship good? There was much censorship in the US in WWI and II. One of the sayings was “Loose lips, sink ships”. This was to keep our troops safe. If the enemy did not know our plans they could not prepare surprise attacks.
I guess it is how you look at it. I am sure the Chinese government honestly believes that censorship is needed to keep peace in their country. But then most of the rest of the world believes that kind of censorship is not good.
