I like to meditate. It gives me peace and gets my day off to a great start. I have had many people ask “How do you meditate” in fact that was a question I asked myself when I first started out.
Many people especially those new to meditating do not realize that you can meditate anywhere and any time. I came across a nifty little book called The Meditation Bible: The Definitive Guide to Meditations for Every Purpose (… Bible)by Madonna Gauding that really emphasizes that point. This book starts out talking about what mediation is and how to prepare for it but the meat of the book contains suggested meditations for different places and for different reasons. For example there is a meditation you can do while eating, there is another you can perform while weeding the garden. There are also the more traditional meditations such as walking a labyrinth and those that concentrate on breathing or a flame.
Meditation is a relaxing way to experience your inner self, it is a step toward conscious living. It is a must for anyone seeking enlightenment in this heavy, dark physical world.
Shakti Gawain has a couple of workbooks that I have used in the past and continue to use even now. I bought Living in the Light Workbook (which is actually a supplement to her Living in the Light: A Guide to Personal and Planetary Transformationbook) and The Creative Visualization Workbook (which is a supplement to the book Creative Visualization: Use the Power of Your Imagination to Create What You Want in Your Life (Gawain, Shakti)
) when I was going through a yearlong depression in 1992. I was seeing a psychologist but it was not work with her that made the breakthrough it was my work through these workbooks that had the most impact.
In Living in the Light Workbook: Guide to Personal and Planetary Transformation, Shakti leads you through a number of exercises to help you access your intuition. In our western world we are often taught to ignore our intuition from an early age. This intuition is very valuable and really needs to be a part of your life. This workbook requires a lot of writing and some drawing but it is great at accessing your intuition in a number of areas of your life and through different techniques. Some of the section headings are “The World as our Mirror”, “Feelings”, “and Daily Life” etc.
The Creative Visualization Workbook: Second Edition (Gawain, Shakti) provides a lot of examples and some simple techniques leading you through the creative visualization process. The book is divided into 5 sections with each section leading you through different areas of you life such as setting goals, clearing out negative belief systems, looking at each individual area of your life and connecting with your intuition and creativity. This is meant to be a fun workbook and it is.
If you are searching for answers in your life, these are some great workbooks to use.
We all want to be healthy, or at least feel healthy. But why can two people do the same exercises, eat the same foods, have similar lifestyles and one be healthy and the other not? Some would say it is their genes and that has something to do with it but there is another major contributor; the persons blood type. In Dr. Peter J D’Adamo’s book Eat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight,he explains how your blood type determines which foods and even which exercises are best suited for you.
Have you heard all the success so many people have with the low carbohydrate, high protein diet, but when you try the diet you don’t lose much weight? That is because a low-carb, high-protein diet is the optimal diet for Type O blood (which is the most common blood type) and if you happen to have Type A blood that high protein diet will kill you. Type A does great with a vegetarian diet.
According to Dr. D’Adamo, Type O is the oldest blood type. It is the blood type of the hunter-gatherer and what did they eat and thrive on? Meat, poultry and fish along with nuts, berries and any wild edible plants they could find. The hunter-gatherer did not have dairy products or much in the way of grains.
Type A evolved out of Type O. These ancestors were less warlike and more settled than their Type O predecessors. Theses are the first farmers so Type A’s do well with a vegetarian diet. If you are a Type A, sticking to a diet high in vegetables, soy and pineapple but low- or no-meat, dairy, wheat and beans will cause the weight to slide off. If you grow it in your home garden, you can most likely eat it whereas a Type O could only eat the items that would naturally grow wild.
The next blood type to develop was Type B. These were the nomads and thrive on a more balanced diet. Type B is a balancing of the A and O types. Corn, buckwheat, lentils, peanuts and sesame seeds will cause a Type B to gain weight. Gee, I wish I was Type B it is a lot easier to avoid those items than all the grains a type O can’t eat. If you are a Type B and have trouble with your blood sugar levels – USE THIS DIET!
The last blood type is Type AB. This type has been around for less than a thousand years! It is the rarest of the blood types with only about 2 to 5 percent of the population having it. This is a complicated blood type. Type AB needs to avoid the foods that are bad for both Type A and Type B with a few exceptions such as tomatoes.
The book has a section for each blood type; explaining the best diet, with suggested meal plans and recipes. I have tried a number of the recipes and they have been excellent! Each blood type has a listing of foods that are categorized into meats, seafood, dairy, oils, etc. and then the foods in each category are divided into highly beneficial, neutral and “avoids”.
Being a Type O, I have found that when I stick with my high protein, low carb diet, it is easier to keep the weight off — and I feel better.
In keeping with the Biblical theme I have going right now, I wanted to introduce Emmett Fox to my readers. Emmett Fox’s life spanned 1886 to 1951. He wrote a number of books on the stories of the Bible, searching for the deeper meaning behind the stories. Most of the Biblical passages are treated as allegory.
Emmett Fox was a scientist, philosopher and spiritual teacher who lectured widely in the US and Great Britain and promoted tapping into the infinite power that surrounds us.
I have a number of his books on my bookshelf. The one I will focus on today is “The Sermon on the Mount: The Key to Success in Life.
” This is one of those books to own because each time you reread it you will gain further insights into life and yourself. To give you an Idea of his writing here is a quote from the book
“If, when someone is behaving badly, instead of thinking of the trouble, you will immediately switch your attention off from the human to the Divine, and concentrate upon God, or upon the Real Spiritual Self of the person in question, you will find – if you really do this—that his conduct will immediately change. This is the secret of handling difficult people, and Jesus understood it thoroughly. If people are troublesome, you have only to change your thoughts about them, and then they will change too, because your own concept is what you see. This is the true revenge.”
This particular book was first written in 1934. I have found a number of books written from 1910 through the 1950’s that promote ideas that are considered new in our times; specifically the Law of Attraction and Manifesting, both of which actually have deep spiritual roots. Although not called by such names, all these older books contain such ideas, this book is no exception.
A Relationship Book in the Children Section

Shel Silverstein is noted for his children’s books. You don’t usually think of a great relationship book coming from a children’s author.
The Missing Piece Meets the Big Ois entertaining for the kids but has great information about what is required for a wholesome adult relationship. I have read this book in my “Soul Mate” workshop to point out the different ways people try to find that ‘perfect’ relationship and why they don’t work out.
This is actually the second in a series. The first book is The Missing Piece. The two books address the feeling of not being complete. So many singles are looking for some one to make them complete, but that does not lead to a healthy relationship. The first book explains why that doesn’t work and the second explains what to really look for.
If you have been dating for a while, you will relate to some of the tactics the missing piece uses and may even be able to put names to the various someone’s the missing piece meets.
I don’t want to give the whole book away, it is a fast read with large, simple pictures like a children’s book should have. If you don’t want to buy it, at least check it out from your local library. I bet they have it — in the Children’s section.
The Holographic Universeby Michael Talbot is a thought provoking book about the nature of reality. This book explains how the hologram, which projects a three-dimensional image into space, seems to explain the nature of reality.
This is an intriguing book with references and explanations of a lot of research that has been conducted world wide. I was familiar with some of the researchers like Fred Alan Wolfe but this was my first introduction to most of them.
Many examples are given from various experiences of different people including the author. One such experience relayed involved a hypnotist who was hired to entertain a group of friends at Mr. Talbot’s father’s house, the author was in attendance. One guest seemed to be susceptible to hypnotic suggestion. Tom had never been hypnotized before but proved to be a very good subject. The hypnotist put him in a deep trance and performed the usual tricks that a stage hypnotist does. One trick was convincing Tom that there was a giraffe in the room at which Tom responded by gapeing in wonder. The hypnotist told Tom a potato was an apple and Tom ate it with gusto. But the real kicker came when Tom was told that his teenage daughter would be completely invisible to him. Tom’s daughter, Laura, was positioned in front of Tom and then Tom was awakened and asked if he could see her. Laura was giggling but Tom looked right through her. “No” he couldn’t see her. The hypnotist went behind Laura so that he was hidden from Tom’s normal view and took an object from his pocket. Tom could not have seen what the hypnotist had done and the hypnotist pressed the object against Laura’s back. He asked Tom to identify the object. Tom said it was a watch. Then the hypnotist asked Tom if he could read the inscription. Tom squinted and read out the name of the watches owner (someone that none of them knew) and the inscription! The hypnotist then showed the watch to the others in the room and everything was correct. Later Tom said that all he had seen was the hypnotist standing and holding the watch in the palm of his hand.
Many more experiences from other people are also given with the explanation of how a holographic universe could account for that.
What tops this for me is that two weeks after reading this book an article came out in our little sleepy town, conservative newspaper with the title “Are We Holograms?”. Makes you think.
Ask and It Is Given

One of the original speakers on “The Secret” was Esther Hicks. We were so impressed by what she said that we bought several of her books one of which is Ask & It Is Given. This fits with my theme for the week on positive thinking.
This book provides a way of increasing your vibrational frequency by improving your emotional outlook. There is a nifty scale about half way in the book that starts at the lowest emotion of “Fear/Grief/Depression/Dispair/Powerlessness” and moves up the scale through Anger and Worry through Frustration and Pessimism then into what we judge as the more positive emotions such as Contentment, Optimism, Enthusiasm and at the top is “Joy/Knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Appreciation”. What makes this book such a keeper are the useful suggested exercises to help you move up the scale to a higher vibration.
Most of us lump all negative emotions into one group as being bad. But there are degrees. For example, the year I was depressed, I lost the depression when I became angry. Anger is higher up the scale from depression (which is at the very bottom) so anger was an improvement. Our society tends to view anger as one of the worst emotions, but it is not at the bottom. Anger can lead to much needed social change. Anger can cause a person to find a better way. But anger is still one of the lower vibrations and it is best to work your way up the scale from that.
Paul was so impressed with the suggested processes that he wrote them down on index cards and carried them around for a long time.
The purpose of the book is to get you to a place where you feel the Life Force in you and around you. It is the Joy you feel in life. A quote I like from the book is “Success is about a happy life, and a happy life is just a string of happy moments. But most people do not allow the happy moments because they are so busy trying to get a happy life.” So true. Our emotions are there as a barometer to tell you how far away from your true self you are. When you are feeling bad you are not in your true power. As the book says “Life is supposed to be fun–It is Supposed to feel good!”
Keys to the Kingdomby Alison A. Armstrong is book about relationships. It is written toward women, to help them understand the man in their life. It is mainly geared toward understanding your romantic partner, but can also be applied to work relationships and even to understanding family members such as brothers, uncles and fathers. The book presents the information in an entertaining story format.
I loaned this book to a friend who has been through several unsuccessful relationships. She called all excited after reading it saying that she now understood what she had been doing wrong all these years.
Keys to the Kingdom specifically tells about the stages a man goes through; Knight want-to-be or Page, Knight, Prince, King and Elder. There are also some good tips and information that applies to any stage such as ‘Do Not Interrupt.’
Alison suggest that you count to 10 after your man finishes what he is saying as a man thinks differently than a woman and when you interrupt it derails him and he loses focus. You have changed the topic for him and he has to get his train going on a new track. A man likes to go deep and focused with laser-like thought whereas a woman tends to touch lightly on a lot of different areas. Also if your man keeps being cut off or interrupted he will stop talking altogether and you will never hear the best part.
I purchased this book after hearing Alison Armstrong in an interview. I was very impressed with what she knew about relationships and look forward to reading her other books.
The Jackrabbit Factor: Why You Can by Leslie Householder is an inspirational book with an easy to read entertaining style. I have found the ideas in this book keep popping into my head as I read other books on manifesting the financial freedom most people just dream about. What makes this book such a good compliment to the other books such as The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles (which can be downloaded for free from www.thesecret.tv) and Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich
, is that The Jackrabbit Factor puts a rather abstract idea into picture form; kind of like a dream that takes your emotions and puts them into symbolic pictures. This book also has that same surreal quality as a dream does.
Richard, the main character in the book, enters into a ‘dream’ type world where people race around looking for sandwiches. The sandwiches represent W-2 jobs. Some bags contain a fat juicy tuna sandwich others may contain a thin cheese sandwich and some contain more than one sandwich. But people are racing around trying to find these sandwich bags, or trying to protect these bags or even getting into fights over the bags when there are actually plenty of others to choose from.
Richard is then introduced to another way of feeding the family. It involves getting off of the main road and collecting jackrabbits. The jackrabbits are elusive until Richard meets some one who is willing to teach him about catching jackrabbits. I won’t tell you how to catch jackrabbits; you will have to read the book for yourself.
The Reconnection by Dr. Eric Pearl is a story (I really don’t like using that word as it implies fiction and this is not fiction) about Eric Pearl and how he ‘discovered’ his healing gift. This is the story of a Chiropractor whose patients started having miraculous healings. Talk about a life that gets a little weird at times. He tells it all.
The book is not just a good fun read but also very informative. It takes into consideration those people who want to heal themselves and those who want to help others heal. Eric dislikes using the word ‘healer’ when referring to himself because he says “I do not heal anybody”. He explains that the healer’s role is to listen and open yourself to receive the energy that allows you to be the catalyst for the healing to take place. So true, for a healer it is essential to learn to get yourself out of the way so real healing can take place.
Eric has a different point of view than most light workers about healing. He doesn’t believe that any ritual or objects or even any physical effort such as tapping is required to evoke healing. He says we need to let go of all this baggage. He doesn’t say it in so many words but he indicates that light workers need to lighten their bag and get rid of a lot of unnecessary items.
This isn’t just a come-on book to lead you to spend on his seminars. He gives very practical information about activating and feeling the healing energy with your own hands. Eric also gives some good advice to others wishing to set up shop as a light healer. I have several pages in this book dog-eared for reference.
Dr. Eric Pearl is one of the few energy workers that I really want to learn more about and one of the things I have on my list of things to do is to attend one of his workshops.
